Elon Musk Says Grok Will Make an AI ‘Odyssey’ Film That Is ‘Historically Accurate’ by the End of the Year

Elon Musk has — finally — broken his silence on “The Odyssey” (well, at least since Christopher Nolan’s epic was released and started breaking various box office records).

The tech mogul and recently-crowned trillionaire — who spent some time before the film’s launch rallying against various casting decisions — wrote on his social media platform X that his AI tool Grok Imagine would make a “historically accurate” full-length feature version of Homer’s ancient Greek poem. He noted that his AI “The Odyssey” would be ready by the end of 2026 (just in time for awards season).

“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” he posted, together with an AI-generated 3-minute short of “The Odyssey” posted by an X user.

Given the presence of cyclops, six-headed monsters and a witch who turns sailors into pigs in “The Odyssey,” a nearly 2,800 year old epic considered to be a work of fiction, how “historically accurate” any retelling — AI generated or otherwise — can be is likely to be called into question.

Presumably, Musk is referring to the racial element, with him having been the most prominent voice attacking the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy. In March he wrote that “Chris Nolan is an anti-White racist,” claiming that he only cast Nyong’o because “He wants the awards.” While not confirmed, the all-white AI cast of the short film he posted on X would appear to be more in line with what Musk would prefer.

Musk had also supporting transphobic posts about Elliot Page, who many initially asserted was playing Achilles. Page was later confirmed as playing Sinon.

For all Musk’s complaints about “The Odyssey” before its release, the movie has been nothing short of a triumphant success for Universal and appears destined to become Nolan’s highest-grossing film to date. The film earned a massive $264 million in its worldwide opening weekend and looks set to continue its own box office odyssey into the coming weeks.
