For David Shor, a data scientist who until recently worked for Civis Analytics, a Democratic polling firm, all it took was sharing someone else’s. On May 28th Mr Shor tweeted a straightforward summary of a paper by Omar Wasow, a Princeton professor, which argued that, in the 1960s, violent protests were less effective than non-violent ones at swaying American public opinion in favour of the civil-rights movement. (Several news outlets, including The Economist, covered the study when it was published.) Ordinarily such a tweet would not have caused a fuss. But given its timing, amid a wave of protests and civil unrest following the death of George Floyd, some Twitter users deemed the tweet hostile to the cause. Mr Shor’s bosses appear to have agreed. Two weeks after the offending post, he was sacked. (Mr Shor has signed a non-disclosure agreement which prevents him from disclosing why he was let go.) Is the Twitter mob that went after Mr Shor a sign that free speech in America is under threat? Commentators on the left do not think so. The free-speech “crisis”, they say, is a myth manufactured by privileged elites who face few barriers to expressing their own opinions. Yet polling data suggest that plenty of people feel they are being muzzled by contemporary politics. A new survey from the Cato Institute, a libertarian think-tank, finds that 62% of Americans say they cannot express all of their views in today’s political climate, up from 58% in 2017

It’s just that there are millions of other people who also wants to express their views and they may not agree with your views. So there will be a clash. Perhaps people who can’t handle it should stay off twitter? Perhaps there is a limit to how much free speech people can handle? Remember before twitter and social media? No one complained about that they didn’t have any free speech back then. Kinda funny.

Any red cap can set off some idiot who will attack you. Gundy (football coach at OSU) faced all kinds of backlash for wearing a One America News Network t-shirt while fishing. He had to agree to a pay cut and a few other things to maybe keep his job. The outrage over a t-shirt shows how pathetic these little snowflakes have become. Oh he was fishing during the summer with a shirt that promotes a news (well as much a news organization as CNN or MSNBC) organization and had his photo taken my life is ruined forever I'm so devastated. It is getting fucking stupid.

But then, neither Facebook or Twitter were as big in 2006 as they are today. It took a few years before it became a thing. So maybe we can say that we have had social media as we know it today for like 10-12 years. Maybe around 2008 the political climate started to get more polarized for each year that has passed since. And what happened in 2008? Obama was elected in 2008, and some people could not accept that, and I think that was the catalusator that set off all the hate, the crazyness and the polarization in Amerikka.

Also there was the attitude among many blacks that finally they were going to get everything they wanted. Not all blacks but enough to really add to the tension and division. They thought President Obama was going to fix all their problems and became disillusioned and bitter when that did not happen. A few even thought roles would somehow be reversed and all of the perceived privileges they thought white people enjoyed would now be enjoyed by them. Saw one interview where the guy said finally white people will see what it is to be controlled by the man. THey had no idea how limited a presidents power is and it pissed them off when they found out. And President Obama had more than a few racist people on his cabinet and in other important positions. Can't blame white supremacists for all the divide. Hell most of them were buying land and bunkering in Idaho for the eventual end of the world that they saw as all but inevitable with a black man as president.
