"New guidance on AP Stylebook Online:

Use care in deciding which term best applies:

A riot is a wild or violent disturbance of the peace involving a group of people. The term riot suggests uncontrolled chaos and pandemonium.

Focusing on rioting and property destruction rather than underlying grievance has been used in the past to stigmatize broad swaths of people protesting against lynching, police brutality or for racial justice, going back to the urban uprisings of the 1960s.

Unrest is a vaguer, milder and less emotional term for a condition of angry discontent and protest verging on revolt.

Protest and demonstration refer to specific actions such as marches, sit-ins, rallies or other actions meant to register dissent. They can be legal or illegal, organized or spontaneous, peaceful or violent, and involve any number of people.

Revolt and uprising both suggest a broader political dimension or civil upheavals, a sustained period of protests or unrest against powerful groups or governing systems."

If there is a civil war, journalists will need to be culled.

Leftist news media has perfected the art of coloring their coverage with skewed language:

-Cant use the term "illegal immigrant" anymore
-"Pro-choice" is an accurate term, but "pro-life" is not
-Semi-automatic rifles are called "assault weapons [of war]"
-"Black" is to be capitalized, but "white" should be left lowercase
-Republicans and conservatives are "rightwing," but Democrats and liberals are seldom referred to as "leftwing"

You cant open a newspaper anymore without routinely coming across this sort of language scrubbing that's designed to favor the leftwing cause. And it works, because most people not in the journalist class dont even realize that this war of words is happening.

I distrusted the media before Trump and I'll distrust them long after Trump leaves office in 2033.

I think the polarization of the media is directly linked to mistrust.

In general Republicans mistrust the news more. But upon closer inspection more liberal news orgs are not trusted by Republicans and more conservative news orgs by Democrats.

But like it came up the other day, even CNN wasn't that bias in The early 2000s.

those OP definitions seem fine to me

i don't see it saying you can't use riot if applicable, looks like it's providing definitions for various terms:

-Riot
-Unrest
-Protest and demonstration
-Revolt and uprising

Fox news types definitely overusing 'rioting'

More manufactured outrage from Rugian. What a surprise. Somehow I have a feeling you're one of those people that, while never truly happy, is even more miserable when you can't find/invent something to emorage about.

AP is a standard thesis format here. I dont see what Ruggy is rioting/unrestful/protesting/demonstrating/ and/or revolting/rising up about.

While the legacy media continues to shift the narrative and utilize euphemisms to achieve political goals, affable retards will continue to screech, "Umadbro? Why waste time manufacturing outage? This is no big deal".

Setting reasonable definitions for which words to use to describe situations is not a problem. Retards like Rugian (and apparently Forwyn) are a problem when they automatically assume it's some attempt at achieving political goals.

So yeah, manufacturing outrage to suit your own political agenda. No shock there.

It is reasonable to be suspicious of journalists. Mostly they are fuzzy studiers who are objectively terrible at math or science, and usually pretty bad at logic, history, or economics even in the best of times. Furthermore, the outright bias by many outfits is blatant and obvious.

If you distrusted every journalist, you would be correct about 96% of the time.

I mean, we have senior journalists at mainstream media outlets publicly wishing that white bald kids have leukemia.

But nah, the shift in tone in journalism is totally unrelated to politics.

"You have heretofore read public sentiment in your newspapers, that live by falsehood and excitement; and the quicker you seek for truth in other quarters, the better."

"If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world, but I am sure we would be getting reports from Hell before breakfast"

"I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are."

Surely all the distrustful media haters here are also fervent defendants of freedom of speech and of the press? In which case, God bless, hate and distrust away. I think it is a healthy skepticism

Deeply insecure white men are so sad. Be a man. Accept that the world is moving forward with grace instead of being some reactionary brownshirts. Even your chosen leaders think you are stupid shits and would gladly eliminate you if it served their ends. Ignorance makes you vulnerable.

Journalism pretty much went out the window with the creation of 60 Minutes. Informing the people was replaced with entertaining the people as ratings became more important to networks than the truth.
Last decade or so it has become more a propaganda machine rather than news or entertainment. We are now in the midst of another shift. CNN and others are lucky President Trump is in office. When he is no longer president it won't take long for CNN and others to go the way of Blockbuster video stores. Social media sites are going to put an end to how television news works. The companies that fail to follow the shift will fail.

Noone lies more than conservative media and blogs. Nobody. It's lie after lie after lie. Makes the mainstream media look way better to anyone with a brain.

Imagine being the kind of retard who believes we must have massive economic regulation, because people are selfish and cause negative externalities, and simultaneously believing that anyone who slaps on a press badge is a saint, without bias that leaks into their reporting - as long as they're not right-wing
