People like Guuthrie the other night claim this is all statistically insignificant.

Bit these same people will take a case like George floyd and say " we hear about so many cases all the time"

0.00007% of votes cast are fraudulent, or so the autorities say. They may be off by an order of magnitude or so.

He, In this case. With most crimes only a small fraction get found out and resolved.

More evidence that IMO we need more standiziation of national elections and Tulsi's paper vote validation slip.

Jergul, A vote not being counted is not counted in those numbers.

What is the amount of mail in ballots that dont get counted or have some abnormality?

what solution are you offering?

the push for mail-in was only due to pandemic concerns

Trump would've claimed massive fraud with or without mail-in (as he's done every primary/election) & he again is doing so for in-person voting too by telling all his fans to flood poll sites to 'watch' for that rampant fraud
(that's not how poll watchers work, not that fucking moron understands any element of anything)

How many votes do you reckon are going to be cast this election? What fraction are single digit incidents of voter fraud attempts is that of the total?

Tw, Well Im no politician but I think a few things could help boost confidence in elections.

1. A national ballot, ubiquitous across the country. To boost safety concerns put to ise similar things that we use to protect currency.

2. A physical copy of your vote.

3. Election day is a national holiday.

4. Ubiquitous counting schedules and voting times/dates.

5. Mandatory ID checks to vote.

That's simple, and doesnt pander to either party. 3rs parties will probably benefit.

Jergul, Not all votes are equal, if 400k votes in PA are fucked up that could change outcome. A few hundred votes have changed outcomes before.

A few hundred votes denied in PA could change the outcome too.

Voter suppression costs way more votes than fraud does. By many orders of magnitude.

Your vote is one of those.

"suppression"

Jergul, I agree. I count I intentional suppression as pretty much fraud.

PA is where there DNC blocked the greens which would have likely been 2-3% of the vote.

However I stress again that I would bet my left testicle that there will be more issues with mail in ballots this year than ever before.

Issues being votes not being counted and fraud etc.

Correction, Greens got a little under 1%.

Libertarians fet 2-3%.... Makes sense from PA. Strong libertarian streaks I. Their conservatives.

That is political oppression by way of the judicial system. Even if the GOP garners more votes than the DNC when both use the courts to block out third parties.

Its not voter suppression as people can still vote.

Trump will never conceed. But careful with your balls. There is no upside for you in that bet. Trump may lose by enough to render any challenges moot. You do not want that left testicle of your to get between a hammer and an anvil.

Also, I am told that castration does not hurt at all. At least not in regards to castrating reindeer.

The trick is to make sure your fingers do not come between the balls when you bash the together.

We will make it as easy as possible to vote - for our two provided choices! This isn't suppression!

But having to drive four miles and show ID is.

Voter disenfranchisement

More appropriate term?

As for my bet, its a safe one we have already had more mail in issues than probably ever.

of course there will be more mail-in issues this year

& there are issues on all voting every election

Trump has done absolutely zero to help & only made efforts to harm (as usual)

Political oppression is the term you are looking for. Come on,you know the terminology, you drop it all the time about foreign countries.

The only people whos votes are suppressed under a two party system is those who refuse to vote at all as a consequence.

Forwyn
Its political oppression, not voter suppression. Court mandated. So a structural issue.

I would argue that VD is a more accurate term for blocking out 3rd party as an option.

You might, but that would be incorrect.

Its an important distinction. Many one-party states had or have mandatory voting and very, very high voter percentages.

Jergul, Your probably right.Ill concede its voter oppression.

I think if we had 1 national ballot it would be much more noticeable if 3rd parties were on or off.

I would hope a rise 3rd parties would lead to more negotiations between parties.

My theory is that it would break up the current coalitions within the parties. The Democrats would beach off into the center left's and the green Socialists. The Republicans would seperate into a libertarian-esque party and either a Bush era.party or an evangelical group ( the Evans may side with either the Libertarian or Bush repubs)

In your system, the best way to go might be to go with independent parties within what is practically are two coalitions anyway.

A green party candidate within the DNC or a evangelical candidate within the GOP for example.

They would both compete within DNC or GOP primaries and then run under the DNC or GOP banner for elections.

I view the coalition concept as real already, or I would be giving you a lot more grief about your two party system as fundamentally undemocratic.

Jergul, Well its my opinion that the GOP and the DNC are coalition parties, the media calls them wings of the respective parties.

I think you and I agree on that.

The difference is that I think we may* do better to break up those coalitions.... that isnt based on much other than shit ain't working now and that may break off the extremes of the two parties and the more centrist elements may be more inclined to work together.
jergul

Your system does not suppor breakouts. Say the GOP breaks into two equally large parties that compete with the DNC everywhere. The net result would be DNC dominance everywhere as the GOP splits the votes it had between the two groups it created.

The only thing imaginable is some center ground party that could attract defectors from both major coalitions.

But that would also be how the new coalition would be created. Currently elected defectors from the DNC and GOP formalizing a new coalition and running under that banner next election.

How would 3 coalitions improve the current status quo? I dunno, but it might somehow. But by much? I doubt it.

Well, Id be aiming at the 4 party route but I think it may help the over partisanship that we have by minimalizing the fringe... I could be completely wrong.
