Germany rejects French plea to scrap Russia gas pipeline over Navalny crackdown

*****
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has stood by the project, and work resumed on it in December after an almost year-long pause due to American sanctions.

Asked about the French objections, Merkel’s spokeswoman on Monday said “the government has not changed its basic position” in support of Nord Stream 2.

Is it not the case that Russian gas became a thing in Germany under the Schroeder SPD government?

Trump was trying to get Germany to buy LNG from US. Germans would rather buy Russian gas which is not obtained by fracking.

Do you believe you have an understanding of NATO? What are your thoughts on NATO? What are your thoughts on the Kurds?

i understand what countries spending 2% of GDP on defense meant

Trump never did... 'president' for 4 years, frequently talked of the issue, yet never grasped the simple concept

So you still don't understand NATO. Turkey is our NATO "ally." Your corporate press masters love NATO. They also pretend to love the Kurds. Do you see a problem?

I think what TW is referencing is the idea that Trump thought that Germany paying more meant the US had a smaller nominal burden.

Not that Trump said this , but Ive heard the theory before.

Turkey is viewed as a shaky partner afaik (although another leader Trump was easily manipulated by)

but yeah, i'm referring to how Trump initially thought the money came to us... but even to this day doesn't understand it

he never once suggested we could spend less which is the only obvious conclusion he should've been making as he claimed we were shouldering too much & getting screwed (in fact, he was quite proud of -raising- military funding)

he was a fucking moron & fucking fraud from the start, his whole legacy is idiocy if you pay attention to what -he- said & did, not what adults around him got done (& prevented him from doing)

"Trump wanted Merkel to buy American."

We offered to build 2 LNG terminals, we did not get a positive reaction from the Trump admin

BERLIN, Sept 16 (Reuters) - Berlin offered to spend 1 billion euros ($1.2 billion) to build two liquefied natural gas terminals to try to dissuade the United States from imposing sanctions over the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, due to bring gas directly from Russia to Germany, Die Zeit reported on Wednesday.

U.S. Expected to Leave Germans Out of Next Nord Stream Sanctions

"The U.S. is likely to hold off sanctioning any German entities for now over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia, according to four people familiar with the matter, as the Biden administration seeks to halt the project without antagonizing a close European ally."

-----

"That reticence is sparking an outcry among critics who argue that U.S. law requires sanctions against any foreign entity if it assisted in construction of the pipeline."

-----

"The people said Trump’s National Security Council had developed a detailed plan with a goal of ultimately halting the project, and the only reason sanctions against German entities never happened was that they ran out of time."

-----

So Trump took decisive action against Putin with respect to Nord Stream 2 and Biden is going to break the law to allow the pipeline construction to be finished? So Putin's alleged puppet Trump took a harder line against Russia than Biden? What does that make Biden? Someone should alert tw and MSNBC.

I don’t think Trump was/is Putin’s puppet. He is Netanyahu’s puppet. Trump probably admires Putin though.

You're likely correct on both points.
