No one is above the law in France. They can send former presidents to jail. Maybe this can encourage the USA to do the same?

France's Sarkozy convicted of corruption, sentenced to jail

PARIS (AP) — A Paris court on Monday found French former President Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of corruption and influence peddling and sentenced him to one year in prison and a two-year suspended sentence.

The 66-year-old politician, who was president from 2007 to 2012, was convicted for having tried to illegally obtain information from a senior magistrate in 2014 about a legal action in which he was involved.

He won't do actual jailtime, he'll get an ankle bracelet. But yeah... it's definitely a step up from not holding them accountable at all.

would never happen in the us, the personality cult around the clown will make it impossible. the deranged lunatic would storm the prison and the "conservative" media would make excuses for them.

This is one thing that Europe does have over us, their politicians are viewed to be accountable to the public in a way ours are not.

In recent history alone, the President of Hungary resigned after it was found that a doctoral paper he wrote 20 years before was found to have been plagiarized. And the PM of Latvia resigned because a supermarket roof collapsed and killed a bunch of people, even though he had nothing to do with the accident.

We just don't see that sort of fall-on-your-sword behavior here.

Partly because delusional hacks like you see your side as doing no wrong. And the other side of the aisle has equally delusional hacks doing the same shit. It ends up being a stalemate of retardation and delusion. You're just part of the churn you claim to hate. Hypocrite.

...no. Also, stop pretending that you're so above it all, you non-contributing cretin.

stop pretending that "both sides" are equal. there is only a personality cult on one side.

Oh look, Y2A invoking an invalid bothsides-ism argument. Looks like it's a day ending in y.

How many Republican OR Democratic presidents have resigned for committing questionable conduct again? This is simply a dynamic that doesn't exist in America with either party.

Nixon resigned because the alternative was impeachment and removal. He didn't leave of his own volition.
