India is starting to look like The Last of Us. Dead bodies are floating in rivers. Dead bodies are burning on da streets. And now, fungus has started to grow on people.

A rapid rise in cases of mucormycosis, also known as “black fungus”, has added to the challenges faced by India’s healthcare system as it deals with a massive second wave of COVID-19 infections.

Read on for information about mucormycosis, opinions from health experts and the scientific evidence behind what could be driving the recent rise in cases.

What is mucormycosis?
Mucormycosis is a fungal infection that causes blackening or discolouration over the nose, blurred or double vision, chest pain, breathing difficulties and coughing blood.

Mucormycosis is caused by exposure to mucor mould, which is commonly found in soil, air and even in the nose and mucus of humans.

It spreads through the respiratory tract and erodes facial structures. Sometimes, doctors will have to surgically remove an infected eye to stop the infection from reaching the brain.

^ da fungus can reach da brain. If you have played The Last of Us then you know what can happen.

On Saturday, federal chemicals and fertilisers minister Sadananda Gowda said nearly 9,000 cases had been reported in India in recent weeks, mostly in people infected with COVID-19 or recovering from the disease. Normally, the country records fewer than 20 cases a year.

The infection has led to a shortage of Amphotericin B, the drug used to treat the condition. Gowda did not share the number of fatalities, but local media have said more than 250 have died because of the disease.

Is it contagious?

The disease is not contagious, which means that it cannot spread from contact between humans or animals.

But it does spread from fungal spores that are present in the air or in the environment, which are almost impossible to avoid.

^ That’s why Joel and Ellie are using gas masks in The Last of Us. You don’t wanna breathe in the spores.

Remember that rich Indian guy who fled to the UK. That’s probably why he fled. I wonder how many more Indians has gone to the UK since.

We have a sizeable minority in the US. Top notch immigrants.

They tend to go into low risk small businesses like chain stores. The guy who runs our local gas station did this, little be little they bring more and more family over and they all pitch in running the store.

India's richest people are fleeing on private jets

One popular destination seems to be the United Arab Emirates, which is only a short distance away from India and usually operates hundreds of flights there.

A spokesman for charter company Air Charter Service India told AFP that the amount of interest in private jets has been "absolutely crazy."

"We have 12 flights going to Dubai tomorrow and each flight is completely full," the spokesman said Friday, according to The Economic Times.

According to the Sunday Times, at least eight private jets were flown to Britain from India in the last 24 hours as the UK implemented its own travel ban on the country

So at the least 8 JETS PACKED with Indians has flown to Britain. Lol

It is really irresponsible of the Indians to travel now in the middle of a pandemic, and especially when the virus is spreading so fast in their country. They could bring all kinds of viruses and fungus with them. Black, yellow, white.

Paramount, Put yourself in their shoes, from that view it is responsible. Of they're that rich Im sure they can afford to work out a quarantine deal with the new country.

Yes, but I think it is disrespectful to the destination countries even if they stay in quarantine.

THE Indian Covid variants are spreading rapidly in parts of the UK and are the cause of around one in 20 new cases, data shows.

Where are Brits going to flee to now? The US? Australia?

On a positive note, India's Covid spike peaked earlier this month. New cases are way down, and continuing to trend in that direction.

http://en....demic_in_India#Daily_new_cases

Their vaccine rollout continues to be garbage though, just 210 million doses administered to date. Pathetic.

Does Pfizer’s vaccine protect against the India’s covid variant?
