kargen Member	Thu Feb 22 16:25:21 The article mentioned an unintended consequence would be clinics would be unable to dispose of unused embryos. There is an unintended consequence but that isn't it. Embryos are usually around six days old when frozen. That means no brain activity. Hospitals have for years used brain activity to determine life. If a person in a car accident is in a coma with no sign of brain activity that person can be removed from life support and allowed to die. These embryos are now legally people and having no brain activity can legally be removed from life support. Now we can go one step farther. Brain activity doesn't start in a fetus until week eight. The woman is the life support for the fetus. So legally with no brain activity present the fetus (now a person since cell division started) can be removed from life support. Pro life side will argue there is a difference in potential for viable life and survival between a car accident victim and a fetus. The way around the law would be require a three month waiting period before a brain dead person can be considered legally dead. Other more out there (way out there) possible consequence is now that the embryo is a legal person could the mother claim a threat of harm from that individual and ask for a restraining order. The state would then be obligated to somehow separate the two individuals and it would be up to the state to try and do so where both parties stay viable if possible.

Even if you agree with this crap you have to see how these decisions are going to affect purple states. Republicans could have easily won the 2024 election taking the presidency and both chambers if they just sat on the abortion and gay rights issues for a few months.
