Utopia Talk / Politics / Trump to UK: "Get rid of the windmills!"

Member | Fri Jan 03 14:46:16 Trump calls on Britain to dismantle North Sea wind turbines US President-elect Donald Trump called on Friday for the United Kingdom to dismantle its wind turbines in the North Sea in response to a decision by a US oil company to leave the oil-rich region. "The UK is making a very big mistake. Open up the North Sea. Get rid of the windmills!" Trump posted on his online platform, Truth Social. The post included a link to Scotland's Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce, which in early November detailed a decision taken by the Apache oil firm to exit the North Sea. Apache said the UK's windfall tax on oil operations had made operation "uneconomic." During his election campaign, Trump, a staunch backer of fossil fuels, also criticized Germany for its pursuit of renewable forms of energy, predicting that if it continued to pursue these policies, it would soon be bankrupt. The UK's Labour government under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which was elected in July, is backing wind and solar power, along with nuclear power. No new drilling licences for oil or gas are to be issued for the North Sea. During his first term in office between 2017 and 2021, Trump lowered environmental and climate protection standards, taking the United States out of the 2015 Paris climate change accord, a deal signed by most countries in an effort to minimize the output of gases that contribute to climate change. His successor, President Joe Biden, who leaves office this month, reversed that decision. http://www...dismantle-north-131718727.html |

Im better then you
2012 UP Football Champ | Fri Jan 03 15:23:57 FACT:windmills don't cause cancer. FACT: Even if they did no one lives in the North Sea |

No one does anything about that.” “They are washing up ashore,” said Trump. “You wouldn’t see that once a year – now they are coming up on a weekly basis. The windmills are driving them crazy. They are driving the whales, I think, a little batty.”" http://www...enewable-energy-misinformation |

tumbleweed
the wanderer | Fri Jan 03 17:04:50 cats murder tons more birds than windmills (& the article Trump was responding to had nothing to do w/ windmills... again, just entirely his self interest in getting them away from his golf course) |

iChihuaha | Fri Jan 03 18:06:49 Yea but cats are cute and the noise they make is relaxing, unlike windmill noise which is lethal*. *in mice at 5000 dB. |
Nimatzo
iChihuaha | Fri Jan 03 18:09:04 Ok, so apparently sound can only reach 300 dB on earth. I shouldn’t have trusted that youtube comment. |

Member | Fri Jan 03 18:13:54 I didn't read nim and rug. Sorry guys. Windmills are an incredibly expensive thing to set up. When put in the ocean the vibrations fuck with whale. Dismantling them after they no longer work is an incredibly expensive and dangerous process. Trump is correct. |

Member | Fri Jan 03 18:16:37 And I read this thread. Seb and jergul don't understand how vibrations in the water can fuck up whales. Not that it really matters to them. It's like when liberals argue for abortion. They bring up incest and rape. But when you tell them "fine, all babies from incest and rape can be killed". They suddenly don't care about incest and rape. Just like now, they pretend that whales beaching themselves because they are confused by noises in the water. They don't care. Ideology trumps all. |

iChihuaha | Fri Jan 03 18:26:27 I poated a study not that long ago showing how wind turbines had rather extensive effects on the atmospheric exchange between the sea and air. It affected salinity and temperature etc. and not just the immediate area but many far down stream. So, yea they are not in anyway perfect from an environmental perspective. They are aweful from a reaource efficiency and reliability perspective. |

Member | Fri Jan 03 18:28:41 obaminated You are not following TW rules. If Trump makes a claim, then that claim is automatically false on account of how crudely he puts it. Windmills are 100% perfect and you're a stupid MAGAT if you believe otherwise. |
tumbleweed
the wanderer | Fri Jan 03 19:24:56 I don’t know if windmills affect whales, I don’t believe any studies have established that (so its crazy for Trump to state as fact) but you also ignore the order of events with Trump... he starts with crazy shit like the sound causes cancer or everyone loses power when there’s no wind, then cultists seek out better reasons for him and he moves to things like whales (from unproven theories) it’s totally fucking nuts... it’s 100,0% clear he gives 0.0% of a shit about facts in his arguments (on any issue at all) including complete willingness to just fabricate shit (see cancer) |

Member | Fri Jan 03 20:11:27 I don't know how they can afford to pay for the delivery costs of the fuel needed to run those wind mills. Hell they have to build roads and shit. |
tumbleweed
the wanderer | Fri Jan 03 20:41:22 for the record... he started w/ the whale shit after there was an article about dead whales on the east coast somewhere & some theories merely speculating it was windmill related thus he started claiming it as fact as it supported his position if it had been blamed on off shore drilling he would have labeled it a hoax (which we may see in action as he tries to expand drilling everywhere he can... its guaranteed he will dismiss every negative environmental study) this is completely crazy behavior for a leader yet completely standard for him (as when siding w/ Putin over all intel agencies & even Republican conclusions, & MANY other examples...) i don't get why you people can't just admit he's a clearly unfit lawless fraud idiot, wholly unfit for office, yet since he's capable of getting elected (somehow) you just have to accept it & hope he confines his idiocy to fake-tweeting & golfing (as he mostly did before) while hoping adults of his administration accomplish the shit you want that's the only semi-acceptable position... pretending he has any knowledge or makes good cases on ANYTHING is crazy |

Member | Fri Jan 03 21:08:30 Rugian is correct. If trump says it, it can't be believed. So I started 2025 by offering to help an old lady get her groceries on the line. Tw started it with a continuing hatred of trump. Huh. |
obaminated
Member | Fri Jan 03 21:13:11 And also, the whales don't matter to tw. It's a false argument. It's pretends it matters because if it is wrong then trump is a fool. If it is right, then tw and the political left, will pivot and find some new issue. |

the wanderer | Fri Jan 03 22:18:12 "if it is wrong then trump is a fool" why are you saying "if"? Trump states it as fact over & over... your chosen leader... surely he has carefully reviewed findings & has proof... the massively huge problem that for some fucked up reason you people can't see is how he arrives at his views (facts don't factor in... AT ALL...) is his behavior just too fucked up to even comprehend so you assume something else? |

the wanderer | Fri Jan 03 22:28:19 please show me Trump's evidence that windmills cause cancer... please show me Trump's evidence that he won the 2020 election (which should be completely solid proof such that he should have been appointed winner... though you will have nothing)... please explain why Trump shouldn't have returned the classified docs when even his own lawyer said he had to... please show me Trump's evidence for deciding Russia didn't interfere in the 2020 election against all other conclusions... i'm sure i'll get real great answers or anything at all... ----- "Murder doesn't believe massive windmills in the ocean are effecting ocean life. Member | Sat Jan 04 08:00:30 "Murder doesn't believe massive windmills in the ocean are effecting ocean life." Murder believes that there is an ocean full of ships that have a greater effect than windmills. Murder also believes that all the human runoff and all the crap we dump into or near the ocean has a greater effect than windmills. Murder believes that offshore drilling has a greater effect than windmills. Murder believes that sonar has a greater effect than windmills. Murder believes that over fishing has a greater effect than windmills. Murder believes that the most harmful thing in the world to ocean life is retarded right-wingers. - |

iChihuaha | Sat Jan 04 08:21:50 That is called whataboutism. |
murder
Member | Sat Jan 04 08:28:29 No it's not. That's pointing out that it's ridiculous to worry about a house having creaky floors when there is an arsonist taking a torch to the place. |
Nimatzo
iChihuaha | Sat Jan 04 08:30:54 That is you reframing the topic in metaphorically language. |
murder

jergul
large member | Sat Jan 04 08:39:43 whataboutism, also known as context. Blondi was a well trained German shepard raised by an attentive and knowlegable owner. The owner was a genocidal maniac. See if you can spot the context provided about the dogs upbringing. |
Nimatzo
iChihuaha | Sat Jan 04 08:40:56 And it is 100% whataboutism fallacy. The things you list are not choices next to windmills at sea, which is fundamentally about electricity production (not food production or maritime transport). Althought they all have negative impact in maritime ecosystems they also have their own distinct utility and purpose with wildly different alternatives and solutions. |
Nimatzo
iChihuaha | Sat Jan 04 08:42:24 murder I am correct, that is what matters. |

large member | Sat Jan 04 08:43:35 Nimi Noted cutie. You think it is a 100% context fallacy. I know it is important that you feel heard <3. |

iChihuaha | Sat Jan 04 08:50:16 That was for murder, nobody is talking to you. |
jergul
large member | Sat Jan 04 08:50:54 Ah, I see you were speaking with murder. Well, that comment stands for his points too. Murder You are correct on your points and death by one thousand cuts does not become less deadly by reducing that to 999 cuts. I think the context you provided is missing a call to action "we need to fix the sea by addressing numerous issues". The context I might have provided is rapid sea temperature change is devasting ocean ecosystems. Windmills at sea may be needed as the lesser evil to mitigate the catastrophic pace of global warming. |
