The company has begun turning down Cybertrucks as trade-in vehicles, according to a new report. Tesla once claimed it had more than a million pre-orders for the futuristic pickup, but sales peaked at just 5,308 per month last September before falling off sharply. The company quickly found itself removing special-edition Foundation Series badges from unsold Cybertrucks in hopes of selling them at lower prices. Sales of all Tesla vehicles peaked in February 2023 and have seen a worldwide slump amid controversy over CEO Elon Musk’s involvement in politics in several countries. Protesters now camp out at Tesla dealerships and factories on multiple continents most days — an unprecedented situation in the auto industry sure to keep potential buyers away from stores. “With Tesla having issues selling new Cybertrucks, the automaker is reportedly not taking any as trade-ins,” Electrek reports. Other owners “who have had their trucks in service for extended periods of time are also trying to get Tesla to take the truck back, but the company is forcing them to go through the Lemon Law process,” Electrek says. Several competitors have sought to capitalize on the controversy. Rival electric vehicle (EV) builders Polestar and Lucid are among companies offering discounts to Tesla owners looking to switch brands. http://www...ing-down-cybertruck-trade-ins/ |
