I imagine being forced into formal prose and adhering to strict acceptable frameworks got him passable grades, but he never did finish his graduate studies (like CC has long suspected). It's obvious that he can't synthesize his own ideas, and he has a difficult time with abstraction. Things need to be black or white, and ideally they should be be labelled for him. Then he can at least demonstrate a coherent understanding of what black and white are. But the gradient of gray space between them quickly results in inconsistency and incoherence. I have noticed common civility is easier with age. Mostly due to life circumstance. The 40s are rough on many males for countless reasons. It is hardly surprising they lash out.
