It's funny that we chose a new class of frigate instead of building more Arleigh Burke destroyers to save money.

How much did we just spend on nothing?

They are going to complete the first two ships in the class that will then serve no purpose. They will end up decaying next to the Littoral Combat Ships that we pissed away tens of billions of dollars on.

Ship design is in a weird place rn

Realistically the best investment is in small carrier for aerial and naval drone deployment st this point...

Everything else should just be dedicated aegis vessels... But since anti drone measures are weak aegis is in a near term bind.

Still, until rail guns and lasers that's the best play and drones will continue to persist

We have vessels 1000 years old. So, not impressed.

As the repairs suggest, the only original parts that remain are brass fittings and large cast iron items.

But my point was actually that behind schedule and over cost might as well be the navy slogan. As two back-to-back multiyear reconstructions of the Constitution clearly indicate.

Why do I think they will have no purpose? Because that's what happens to ships that are obsolete. They will not equip it properly because it's an unnecessary expense. Every dollar spent on them is a dollar not available for the next class of ships that will be cancelled.

They will eventually get pawned off on some tiny country who is trying to gain favor with the US.

Larger numbers of smaller ships is what we should be shifting to. I worry about our carriers and amphibious assault ships.
