jergul rank	Wed Jul 01 16:07:26 Redherring. We knew Syria had chemical weapons and accounting for all of it and handing it over was impossible given the disruptions of the civil war. Incidental use of chemical weapons in adhoc forms undoubtably occurred because people in a civil war putting together barrel bombs can be assholes with access to cleaning supplies and rat poison. Or maybe even a waylaid chemical warhead. There is absolutely no evidence that the regime planned and authorized the use of chemical weapons, nor is there any evidence the regime that the regime failed its best effort in handing over its chemical weapons. "Dozens of chemical weapons" What a nothing burger. Syria had 1300 tonnes that is succeeded in handing over. Rofl, less than a rounding error the finds so far.

Rugian rank	Wed Jul 01 16:15:43 Jergul Possession is 9/10s of the law. These were Syrian government weapons, that ended up being used against enemies of the Syrian government. It is therefore reasonable to speculate that it was the government that used them. The onus should be on those providing alternative theories to prove their thesis. Other than the Syrian government saying "no we didn't do that, and we would obviously never lie about something like this lol," do you have any basis to support your claim?
Seb rank	Wed Jul 01 17:40:26 Jergul: "Incidental use of chemical weapons in adhoc form" Hold on we've got documents, stockpiles of munitions and the agents that you said were ad-hoc and indicative if rebel groups, conclusively proving it was not ad-hoc, but serial production of chemical weapons by a divergent program and deployed to a systematic strategy. These rockets you said were, essentially, ad-hoc cobbled together homebrew used in, essentially, a false flag attack to trigger foreign intervention... were exactly what all the evidence at the time suggested: Assad's forces using chemical weapons against civilians as part of their theory of victory. This isn't one headline extrapolated as a trend though is it - it's verified findings of trusted international orgs with boots on the ground. "regime failed its best effort in handing over its chemical weapons" Other than a whole set of deliberately concealed chemical weapons, documentation, and specially built munitions post-dating their declarations? At some point you kinda need to recognise these are not accidental failures but a deliberate violation in bad-faith. Forced to disclose and surrender their old program based on Russian supplied stuff, they developed a domestic capability.

jergul rank	Thu Jul 02 00:43:40 Ruggy Certainly. A State needs to keep its weapons of mass destruction safe. It was one the of great worries with the dissolution of the USSR that WMD would go astray. Hollywood dramatized that many times. Factually though, you have lost more nuclear weapons by weight than chemical weapons have been recovered in Syria when we discount the 1300 tons handed over. In sum: A piss-poor gotcha attempt by seb who employed methods he so deplors when sammy uses them against him. Seb Tisk, tisk. Be better.
