US navy destroyer broke down

US navy destroyer adrift in South China Sea for four days after losing power

USS Benfold lost power after ‘engineering casualty’ leaving sailors without galley services, toilets and air conditioning

A US guided-missile destroyer reportedly spent four days adrift and without power in the South China Sea in July, furthering concerns about strain being placed on deployed military members.

The USS Benfold, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer which had been sailing with the George Washington carrier strike group, was reported to have been towed to Subic Bay in the Philippines, according to the US Naval Institute News, an independent military publication.

The 10,000-ton destroyer lost power after what a spokesperson with the US seventh fleet called “an engineering casualty involving its generators”, resulting in a loss of power.

That loss of power meant sailors were without galley services, toilets and air conditioning, Commander Matthew Comer told USNI News in a statement. Another vessel, USS Robert Smalls, the cruiser attached to the strike group, had to help provide meals for the crew.

This is what happens when a country is run by a pedo mafia.

I can confirm from the state of Russia's Navy that Paramount speaks truth.

I didn't know that the Ben Folds Five guy had a destroyer named after him.

That's quite the honor. Easily better than a Grammy.

"no AC"

Lol.

For few days those poor sailors had to live like euros

Dummy gets scale wrong yet again. AC is good for a few weeks a year. Getting more needed fast for global warming reasons. I used mine exactly once this year (AC functionality is incredibly common here as heatpumps are widespread).

As for being trapped on a steel vessel under those conditions. A complete nightmare. You are very dumb.

Americans losing AC is international news.

Euros hardly have ac at all.

Look at dummy practicing hyperbole for dramatic effect. Not entirely effective, but so cute that he is trying. *Huggles*

Jergul, It is funny because for relatively rich nations to view AC as a luxury and literally couldn't get them during heatwave seems silly.
To Americans where, they are so readily available any department store had 20+ models for sale.

Especially when you hear Euros talk shit "Why do Americans all need AC", well, they found out when the temperature went to the 80s with humidity.

Dummy does not understand the problem.

No heads (toilets), no refrigeration or freezers,
no non-confectionary food, no ventilation in the tight confines of a steel ship, also, no water as desalination production relies on pumps.

Left alone, the crew would be dead in a week.

People dont want the hassle of storing a portable AC for almost all the year. That is the barrier. We have Amazon and variants of that here. Ordering is trivial, but people dont want too.

Reversible heat pumps on the other hand are a bit more difficult. Which is what most people actually need. A lot of Europe is North of continental USA (the US Canada border runs about where Paris is).

So yah, not needed yet unless a person has underlying health issues.

What is weird is Europeans thinking they wouldn't need A/C despite their focus on global warming and climate change.

Did they think that was for everyone else but not them?

"No heads (toilets), no refrigeration or freezers"

oh no. So like a camping trip.

"Left alone, the crew would be dead in a week."

Let it be known that jergul needs to be coddled like a little princess to survive a week.

"no water”

Every single ocean-going boat ever to go out into the open ocean carries enough backup fresh water to survive the loss of all water makers. This is obvious. A cruising sailboat carries something like 50 gallons per occupant. Obviously the warship needs less, as it is never as slow as the sailboat. How the fuck does a so called fisherman not understand the basics? Like we aren't asking you to calculate your position with a sextant here. What did you do onboard anyway? Sweep the floors?

"People dont want the hassle of storing a portable AC for almost all the year. That is the barrier."

Ya, I suppose a poor city dweller in a micro poor person apartment might not have 4 cubic feet of extra storage.

Lol
