In the controversial video, titled "Uglier and Uglier," artist Song Ta filmed and ranked college students at his alma mater based on their appearance. Originally produced in 2012, the work's Chinese title literally translates as "school flower," a term used to describe beautiful female university students. ... the wanderer | Mon Jun 21 14:28:02 An Iowa man convicted of assaulting a man who told him to pull his mask up last year was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison, according to a court representative. Shane Michael, 42, was convicted last month to willful injury causing serious injury — a Class C forcible felony, according to court records — which has a mandatory 10-year prison term. Michael was arrested on Nov. 11 following the altercation at an eyeglass store in Des Moines, according to a police report. The victim, Mark Dinning, told Des Moines police that he told Michael as he was in the store that his mask was low on his face, the report said. Dinning, 60, said Michael got angry, and the two had a verbal argument. When Dinning left the store, Michael followed him, cornered him outside and started to assault him, Dinning told police. Michael gouged Dinning's eye, kneed him in the genitals where he had recently had surgery and spit and coughed on him, saying, "If I have it, you have it." http://www...ht-sentenced-10-years-n1270721 |

Reminds me of "The Clock" by Christian Marclay — a 24-hour long movie that shows 12,000 individual clips from movies for every minute of the day (and many subdivisions therein). So, if a pre-2010 movie shows a clock in a scene, Marclay potentially sampled that scene for the movie. Years of editing D: "he told Michael as he was in the store that his mask was low on his face" I'm impressed by people's willingness to call others out for petty things in public. It's a real testament to the Foucault-Panopticism that has infected the Zeitgeist that citizens once again police each other in this way (Foucault talks specifically about Panopticism during the Black Plague). I mean, most people could be psychos, so randomly telling them how to behave seems like dangerous confrontation, but media inducement ensured that there was no shortage of such confrontations throughout the pandemic. .. Going around the Zeitgeist: Avril Lavigne decided to jump on China's data-mining tool, TikTok, yesterday (June 21st, 2021) with a neat cameo: (WARNING! the wanderer | Fri Jun 25 12:32:03 DENVER (AP) — The older brother of a 13-year-old boy who disappeared in Colorado in 2012 confronted his father about photos of him eating feces from a diaper months before his younger sibling went missing, the boy’s brother testified Thursday. The father, Mark Redwine, is being tried in the killing of his son, Dylan Redwine. The boy disappeared in the Vallecito area near Durango during a court-ordered visit during his Thanksgiving break, authorities said. Mark Redwine told investigators he left his son alone at home to run errands and returned to find him missing. Prosecutors argued this week that Mark Redwine killed his son over photographs that triggered a fatal outrage. The photos, accidentally discovered by the two boys on their father’s computer during a road trip in 2011, depict Mark Redwine wearing women’s underwear and a diaper, and eating feces from a diaper. ... |

Looks like that could keep the Steam sellers honest.. like, no raising the price only to have a "sale" where the price drop percentage becomes inflated. • Death Stranding going for a good discount (was $60, now $24) • Dying Light was $40, now $14 Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order on sale.. but I miss when you could hack off limbs (like with Jedi Outcast). I get why they did it, but it makes the light saber seem like just any other weapon and makes the game physics seem sloppy. .. Two major crashes on June 26th during Stage 1 of the Tour de France (set to the moment): http://youtu.be/zeXkSdgNKN4?t=1093 (in the first crash, you can see that the bystander had her arm across the sign that she was holding, so the rider put pull force into her outstretched arm and shoulder) |

Member | Mon Jun 28 21:54:22 Yeah, les Belges mix languages a bit :D «Allez» would be "go!" in French, whereas «Opi-Omi» is German for "grandma-grandpa". Weird way to give a shout-out to your grandparents, but whatever ;p .. Stage 3 saw more crashes, though smaller in scale. (NBC Highlights) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV-xN1vSzrg Lots of scattered showers on the course, so roads were slick. Turns were also tight, and the peloton was mostly together for the race (no big breakaways), so lots of people trying to get through small sections. • In an early crash (around 3:00 in the highlights), Geraint Thomas went down (possibly due to a speed bump), dislocated his shoulder, had it popped back in, and then continued. Not sure if he'll be okay for Stage 4. • 22:00 — Valentin Madouas of Team Groupama maybe touched wheels or got squeezed to the shoulder • 24:00 — Primož Roglič (a race favorite) and teammates wipe out at about 9km from the finish, breaking their standing for the day • 26:00 — Wipeout on sharp descent turn (clipped rear wheel, then taking out 6 other cyclists). This split the field at 3km remaining. Tadej Pogačar, winner of the 2020 Tour, managed to get out of that crash without too much time lost (about 20 seconds). • 29:55 — Caleb Ewan clips Merlier's rear-wheel, loses balances, and takes out Sagan. Ewan fractured his collarbone, so that ends his Tour. Sagan looked okay physically, and his points will be protected since the crash happened at the end. The first week always seems to have a *little* chaos, but this opening has been crash wild. The survivors have started appearing, though :D |

You used to be able to get away with this sort of thing, but all the pay phones have gone away now ;D Tour de France, Stage 4: (I'll try to limit Tour spam going forward, but..) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-4xamI8TEI 3:00 — The peloton held a short protest to show their displeasure with the crashes in stages 1–3; all riders came to a stop for one minute, and they moved very slowly for a time afterwards. It seemed like a mostly minor protest, though, because I'm sure a lot of the veterans figure that crashes represent the name of the game and a way to split the field. But, it's good to pause for a minute to take things more safely. 12:40 — Very cool breakaway by Brent Van Moer. It gets progressively more exciting, with an amazing finish around 21:40 ( spoiler ahead! ). That finish really shows the final push power of the peloton; Van Moer got there struggling with nothing left, but the peloton had gotten there with fresh legs for their sprinters. Moer ended up 49th, but, like was suggested in the commentary, he ended up with the most combative rider prize for the day. Super emotional finish too :') |

Member | Tue Jul 06 07:49:53 Quick Tour updates: Stage 5: Time trials; not too much happening. Some good switches in rankings while people waited to see the times of competitors, but nothing amazing to me. Stage 6: Another win for Cavendish. I don't really like his style too much (A sprinter; he sticks with the pack, doesn't break away, and just waits for the stage steal; I prefer climbers), so I'm not super excited for him :p Stage 7: Longest stage of this tour at 249.1 km (154.8 mi). Big breakaway by the leaders, with an emotional solo finish by young rider Matej Mohorič of Slovenia. Stage 8: The climbs begin! The peloton gets dropped, with big time-differences between the leaders. Time for the real leaders to emerge :p .. this put 2020 Tour winner Tadej Pogačar in 1st overall. He's looking good to hold the rest of the Tour. Stage 9: Primož Roglič drops out of the Tour at the start. Sounds like his injuries from the stage 3 crash were an issue. He finished second in 2020, so that's a big bummer — strong climber. Around 20:00 in this recap, there's a visual repeat of last year's stage 17 climb (the narrow road climbs) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oP2E3B2LW9g Last year, stage 17: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r86VAAkK_Hk&t=659s This makes sense because 2020's stage 17 ended in Méribel, which is close to 2021's stage 9 finish in Tignes. Not the exact same roads, but very close together in the Rhône-Alpes. Miguel Angel Lopez finished first in stage 17 last year, but he was 45th, on this year's stage 9. |

This week's Tour re-caps pls ignore ;D Stage 10: watch?v=q4p79_Rivyo — The Tour has begun leaving the Alps. 24:00ish flat for Colbrelli, who was a contender for the stage win. Cavendish's team has been set on pushing Cavendish through to get Cavendish past Eddy Merckx' record for 34 Tour stage wins. It's an artificial win, but they'll put something on the books. Stage 11: watch?v=dh29da9bmgI — Very cool category 4 climb at the start; Alaphilippe uses it to create a fracture in the peloton and take King of the Mountain points; he later falls back to 23rd place on the stage. 35:00 — Pogačar cracks in the mountains after a big attack. Wout Van Aert takes the stage win. Stage 12: watch?v=0ZInbbaxJEA — Sagan drops from the Tour before the start of stage 12, citing knee injuries related to the stage 3 crash. 34:30, big attack by Nils Politt, who wins his first Tour stage. Stage 13: watch?v=9EJgZ0WqKaE 26:30 — Tim DeClercq, who has been holding Cavendish's hand to get Cavendish into a winning spot, crashes on a gravel-covered segment. Cavendish later gets a flat, but he gets back with his remaining team and they hold his hand into his 34th Tour stage win. This puts Cavendish next to Merckx for most Tour stage wins. Time for doping allegations ;p Cavendish may not be relevant again until after the mountain stages (around stage 19). Stage 14: watch?v=CMwfKZv8cg0 Woods makes big moves to secure King of the Mountains points, but Woods slides out during a tight turn at 19:20. Mollema pulls ahead, getting a minute lead ahead of the chase group when he summits the final climb; Mollema stays solo for 45km. This put Mollema in 5th overall in King of the Mountains. Pogačar and the peloton arrive 7 minutes later. They have arrived in the Pyrénées, so more mountain stages to follow. .. Some articles mention that a dam was blasted to relieve flooding, and Zhengzhou city looks like it's spent a lot on water diversion (e.g., this diversion bridge, http://new...al-China-WXCeITupcQ/index.html ). Zhengzhou was also supposed to be a beneficiary of the "South–North Water Transfer Project" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South%E2%80%93North_Water_Transfer_Project ), but maybe all of China's moving of water from place to place created new instabilities. According to Grimes, Uzi’s purchase is nearly complete and would make him the first human to legally own a planet." using 'legally' loosely here... not clear who is running the obvious scam :p (or if just made-up) |

"i think i've come across 'only people -they- follow can reply', but an 'only followers' can reply doesn't seem useful as you can follow/unfollow at will" The first Tweet didn't work (while not following), and the second did work (After following). Twitter seems to do this for "protected" Tweets, where the Tweets have global visibility but protected replies: "If your Tweets are protected, it means only people who follow you will continue to be able to reply." http://hel...-twitter/twitter-conversations But yeah, I un-followed, and the second Tweet is still there. Seems like a very easy loophole to navigate, though maybe they expect that people won't open another browser to see if their Tweets were visible to others. Sadly, I got into the habit of checking that years ago with other shadow-ban websites ;D "i've been blocked by Rudy Giuliani... my most famous yet" Nice! It's hilarious to me that famous people have plugged into this mess and actually read replies, but I guess the narcissism just fits. I definitely thought about making a project out of this person, but my Twitter has been 99% UtopiaForums down-time updates, so it would be a weird turn. A fun thing might be to make a satire account that pretends to be a self-aware version of the original ;) |

Maybe I'll try to finish it next weekend.. .. Hilarious story about someone on Imgur getting catfished and conned: http://imgur.com/gallery/l8Y1KG0 It's super long. I mostly just skimmed it because it sounds like "Notes from Underground". The TLDR: • This idiot gave someone money ($750) after only a week chatting online through Imgur. Yeah. Money request after one week. Red flag ignored right at the start. • They actually believed that a picture of a model that they were sent was the real person (they even admit to not knowing about reverse image search) • The con then convinced the OP to send $6000 • He still believed the con after months of the con ducking him on re-payment and after making up an absurd story about having to change names due to a "mafia hit" (lol) • The OP finally starts investigating, and finds out that he's an idiot • But because he couldn't "prove" it, he sent the con *more* money (lol) • He finally does more due diligence and realizes that the scammer had messaged many people on Imgur The story is so stupid that I was expecting a fake ending, like, "Then, she asked for about tree fiddy", but the OP seems to be sticking with the story. The only other explanation is that the OP mentioned having Asperger's and mental health issues, which would mean vulnerability. It's kind of like the old people who get conned by those package scams. It sort of treads the line between "stupid" or "troll", where I want to believe the OP was trolling, but people *can* be this stupid, so.. D: |

the wanderer | Wed Jul 28 12:04:19 the scams definitely work or there wouldn't be so many around, the old & the lonely seem prime targets ----- on "Night of the Dead" compare... it's not too similar a feel, "Orcs Must Die" isn't open world survival, no scavenging/crafting (at least in the 1st two games, haven't looked at new one)... it's just a series of maps where waves of Orcs move from entrance(s) to exit(s) & you must stop them (& you get points for kills that you spend on traps to help, & you get new trap options as you progress) |

With the help of a chain-driven excavator, a 47-year-old contractor destroyed large parts of a new building complex comprising about 30 residential units by tearing down balconies and massively working the building facade all around with the work machine. In the process, the man also damaged associated garages on which several gas cylinders were located. The police therefore cordoned off the area over a wide area, as damage to the gas containers could not be ruled out. Although there were no people in the building, the action had attracted around 50 onlookers. After his destructive action, the man got into his car and drove away, but turned himself in to the police shortly afterwards. As the reason for the massive destruction, the entrepreneur claimed outstanding payments, which in his opinion had been wrongfully withheld from him. |

Member | Sun Aug 01 15:50:28 I'm trying to decide on my new Twitter project... basically, I'd be responding to people while pretending to be their unconscious thoughts. I'm wondering, though: Would it be better to just make an account that satires *one* person's thoughts (in which case, I'd use wordplay of their name as the account name; allows specificity and would be more effective on that one person), or would it be better to have a general name that can respond to any random public figure (an umbrella account name; allows more contexts but may be less effective against a single person since people would have to understand the satire account more)? Hmm.. choices.. Ideally, I'd make multiple satire accounts for each person being satirized, but that could become more difficult to maintain. .. the wanderer | Sun Aug 01 23:12:29 A Louisiana man was arrested on his wedding night after allegedly opening fire on a highway while still wearing his tuxedo. The incident unfolded Saturday evening on the Bonnet Carré Spillway as Devin Jose Jones, his new wife, and a male friend were stuck in traffic caused by a car crash on their way back to Alexandria, St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre told WVUE. Jones accused his new bride of having an affair with the male friend, according to Tregre. He then exited the car, allegedly shot at the friend and also fired at another car in traffic. ... Jones's wife ran from the car, according to police, and took refuge in the ambulance assisting people involved with the car crash. St. John Parish deputies found Jones banging on the vehicle trying to get to her. Alcohol was reportedly a factor in the incident. Two shooting victims were transported to a nearby hospital, according to local media reports. Jones was arrested for attempted murder, aggravated battery, and two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, according to jail records. http://www...e-gun-highway-wedding-arrested |
