And the general game page is here:
http://diablo.blizzard.com/
(With a general link like that, I expect it to be broken by 2021 — currently 2019, for reference)

..and as I mentioned in thread "#UGTwit107", "People keep bringing up the Hong Kong issue, but while China is China (messed up to the bitter end), *if* Blizzard releases a good game, then it should be weighed on its own merits. It's the same thing for me with actors like Tom Cruise; I don't care if he's a Scientologist if he makes good movies. That being said.. who knows if this'll be a good game."

I agree with WoO that there's reason to be optimistic, and in the mean time I'm looking at the former games ;p

Diablo 3 anyone? Seems I can play that on the us servers without buying the whole freaking game again :p

I was at blizzcon and played the demo on the floor as a druid. It was quite fun and a beautiful game. I'm excited. Just seeing the slick blood coating the werebear/wolf forms was awesome.

Druid looks super cool too. The wolf seems even taller than the bear :D

..
"I was at blizzcon and played the demo on the floor as a druid."

Cool! Does it look pretty finished, then? I'm wondering how close they might be to release... maybe they'd shoot for (early?) summer 2020...

While it looks pretty crisp, it was a very small demo compared to the game. I was at level 20, couldn't test any talents besides what it had picked. new gear dropped and they had some runes to demo them, but it was very streamlined for the convention. My hope is more early 2021, more than likely though late 2021. One of the guys that was with me believe late 2020, but I don't think it will be ready by then.

Diablo 1 was put on GOG in March of this year (2019), btw.
http://www.gog.com/game/diablo
..which means that it's finally playable on Windows 10 right from download instead of the previous method of using an iso or dealing with crashes and bad mod versions. I started playing it yesterday and have been having fun :D

Sounds like Damian was on target with that late 2021 prediction for a Diablo IV release. They've started a "quarterly update" blog, so they intend to take their time.. which is good.. just hope that we don't get wiped out by Chinese viral weapons before they finish ;)

..
February 26, 2020 update:
http://new...quarterly-update-february-2020
TLDR:
- They took feedback from the Con and implemented some changes
- Looks like they've made aesthetic updates to the inventory screens ("our goal of a gritty, realistic UI")
- Experimenting with menu positions for PC and console versions
- Plot and gameplay side: monsters distributed into four "families" (cultists, cannibals, drowned, and.. an unreleased family?). It's supposed to correspond to how the other Diablos used "families", like, Diablo 1 had skeletons/zombies (undead), meats, animals, whatever.

I hope they don't spend too much time with console accommodations, since console is for dirty peasants ;p

Blizzard released another quarterly update in late September (2020). One notable thing was the skill tree artwork:
http://bli...eight=4096&mode=pad&format=jpg
Backup image here, since Blizzard always breaks their links: http://i.imgur.com/xpqCAPU.jpg

That was the centerpiece of the Q3 update (developing the sorceress' skill tree):
http://news.blizzard.com/en-us/diablo4/23529210/diablo-iv-quarterly-update-september-2020
A familiar spell name appears: charged bolt. They also have demos of some spell animations. I didn't read too closely, since it's too early for the small details to matter ;p

Blizzard gave a big Diablo IV update for BlizzCon:

"BlizzConline 2021 - Diablo IV: What's Next"
[Diablo; February 19th, 2021]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO3LQqpiBvQ
• Rogue character announced (Diablo 1 throwback)
• They did another D1&D2 throw-back with PvP ear-collecting in the cinematic. The people in this video only seem to reference it from D2, so they may never have played D1... so that's... interesting... I pointed this out in a comment there :p .. it looks like Joe Piepiora joined Blizzard in 2017 and Careena Kingdom joined in 2012.. so that explains it. I kind of doubt that anyone who played Diablo 1 in the '90s would be involved in making Diablo IV. Working for Blizzard must be like getting hired at any tech company nowadays: just a standard cubicle job.
• They added horsies and horsie-riding, but they call them "mounts" because that's the l33t gam3r thing to do post-WoW or whatever. Just call them horsies and ponies! Make it yours! ;p
• they added character customization screens (so not just the stock characters like in D1&D2); not sure if they let you alter their faces, but they preview changes to tattoos, scars, skin color, hair color, eye color, makeup, and starting clothes..
• Lots of similar mechanics from Diablo 2 were brought back, like fire/ice/poison imbued items — mostly standard hack&slash powers nowadays
• Optional PvP zones added which have special items and bonuses to incentivize people to enter and fight each other

It looks very nice, especially the worlds. The art was a definite focus, and it shows. I don't necessarily like their treatment of the rogue (huge departure from Diablo 1), but I know my tastes in games doesn't drive any market anywhere ;p

Current speculation has Diablo IV releasing in 2022 ( http://www.pcgamesn.com/diablo-4/release-date ). That's based on development milestones still needed and "Activision saying that 2022 will be a “big year” for “Blizzard in particular.”"
..So plenty of time to run through your Steam library ;)

It looks pretty cool! My understanding is that it's exactly the same game mechanics but updated art and graphics, which would be awesome. I've heard some people say that that game-play is "dated", but I recently replayed Diablo 1 a few times (which was updated by a third party to have better detail), and that still holds up, so those people just don't get it :p

Diablo 2 remastered looks scheduled for release in December 2021, btw. That seems to give further weight to expectations that Diablo IV will release in early/mid 2022, since it's an appropriate marketing move to get people playing Diablo 2 to hype up Diablo IV.

The modern "Blizzard" aspect of Diablo II (money-grabbing) has kicked in: pre-purchasing of the game has begun (June 13th, 2021), with the incentive being that you get "early access to the Diablo II: Resurrected Open Beta"...

In other words, they're trying to get their beta testers to pay *them* to test the game. I'm just guessing that they need only a certain amount of beta testers, and with enough demand they'll be able to pull all the beta testers they need from these "pay to test" people. Then again, maybe there will be open betas?

Ya know, the paid beta test/early access thing has become some common I can't even get mad about it anymore. If people want to play it so bad that they'll pay to debug it, let them.

The thing that pisses me off is when the game either never leaves the beta/early access or it comes out as a terrifying buggy mess anyway.

I think some of those cases (not leaving beat/early) is because they know they'd get smoked by reviews. So just keep it in beta then no critic can review it.

Has anyone played D II yet? I have a friend that played it as a kid and she said it brings back all her nostalgia even though she's embraced the updated graphics. :) D III was my first exposure to Diablo but I'm tempted to do D II just for fun while waiting for D IV.

Saw some game play of it it looks very neat for such an old game, I personally think they did a good job. But I'm not keen to play it, too used to play DIII.

in a matter of fact I just started again with the last season of DIII. grinding torment lvls again yay!

Never played D3, probably never will. Hack and slash looting not really my style. More of a turn-based nurrrrd. What's so fun about it? :D

The story is fun and engaging for one. There is so much you can control about how your character's skills are built that we could both pick the same class and have such wildly different characters. I also think this makes replaying the game more fun since I get to come up with a different build each time.
I also love to have a few drinks and play it with my husband (who introduced me to the game) and I find it really fun to play that way. :)

I really enjoy the simplicity of just hack and slash with this game I sometimes need this kind of thing, and yeah what Carly says its fun to explore with different gear and abilities. I have my favorite monk set and to farm it I use the season one and try it out see if I can get a good result out of it

"Has anyone played D II yet?"

Assuming you mean D2R, if the servers work I'd give it a thumbs up if you either want to play with a controller or can stomach click-to-move gameplay. I tried the controller support during the open beta and found it to be a good match for ARPG gameplay. Bought it shortly before the servers died for a week but it was fine until then.

The release date for Diablo IV was set at 6.6.2023, and a launch trailer was released for it in December 2022:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsNDMHvz98M

Do not preorder it, of course.

Big worries continue.
Blizzard has slightly hinted that they'll avoid Diablo:Immortal's pay-to-win issues (lies), but they seem likely to weave micro-transactions and monthly fees into their model if they can (e.g., "Battle Pass"). There's also evidence that they'll have purchasable horsies and other quality-of-gaming upgrades and game editions (i.e., pay-to-win).

Their dev update video was a *lot* of them selling collectors items and merch instead of talking about the game itself ( https://youtu.be/Izo-Fa-cYZQ ). There's a 10–15 minute section in the middle where they show gameplay and talk about the skill tree, but it has that cheesy WoW overlay of numbers and notifications (and the font was way too big). It's usually possible to toggle that nowadays, so it's probably not an issue, but this wasn't a good demo..

Most of the artwork still looks very nice, and that alone is probably the game's greatest feature.
Still, they've clearly had their character-class aesthetic choices influenced by losers (e.g., ugly character models, stupid hair cuts, tattoos, DIE imperatives). That means ESG infiltration, which would make it immoral to support Blizzard financially.

In checking after writing the above, Blizzard did indeed become an ESG company in 2020, which likely doomed all of its future work:
"In 2020, we established an ESG Steering Committee and task-specific, cross-functional, enterprise-wide ESG working groups. Our ESG working groups are composed of individuals from our executive management team and employees from across our business units and corporate functions. They support the steering committee by identifying relevant ESG matters. The ESG steering committee and working groups grew and guided our efforts across 2021."

TLDR:
It's looking this game will disappoint a lot of people.
The story probably even has agitprop at this point. It might be worth a hate watch of someone else's YouTube playthrough, though? We'll see.

This is sort of old news now, but "Unscripted" on YouTube does A.I. edits to make "honest" voice-overs of game devs and such, and he did this one for Diablo IV:
[October 21st, 2023]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oSkFlkSdKQ

• "We want to put monetization front and center"
• "On launch, Alpha-testers can join us on Battle.net followed by the Beta-testers on Steam."
• "Feedback will never have any direct impact on development."
• "They are relying on your nostalgia for a game company that no longer exists."
• "Accept that Blizzard as you know it is dead."

The "Operator Bundle" looks good! :)
